Challenge

The case addresses hypothetical problem(s) in the field of video games law. The case will be published on the Website according to the Timeline and will be heard by ad-hoc arbitral tribunal. The case covers substantial issues only; no procedural issues are raised in the case.

All facts relevant for the Competition are outlined in the case. No additional facts may be
introduced into the case unless they are a logical and necessary extension of the given facts or are publicly available true facts.

Frequently Asked Questions

In 2018, WG Legal Challenge is organized as a moot court. Teams of 1 to 3 persons are invited to join the challenge.

We appreciate individual contribution of each participant, that is why we encourage you to form and administer teams on your own. At the same time, if you would like to have someone mentoring you through the challenge, such a person will be invited to Games Industry Law Summit 2018 and will be included into the team headcount, but will not be permitted to plead.

The team willing to take part in WG Legal Challenge 2018 should fill in the registration form (available through the link below on this page), and should pay the registration fee of EUR 50 (you will receive a PayPal invoice to your email, which you can pay via PayPal or by any of the major credit cards). The registration deadline is February 15, 2018.

Upon submitting the registration form, you will receive a PayPal invoice to the e-mail address that you indicated in the form. The invoice shall be fully paid within one (1) week after the receipt. WG Legal Challenge 2018 case is dedicated to the problem of game cloning and related legal issues.

The exact places awarded to these finalists will be announced at the Summit, on the second day (actual final grades range from 5.33 to 7.33 out of 10), with the 1st place receiving a prize of €1,000 and the 2nd place receiving €500.

Entries

To enter the challenge, you must submit a document (.DOC, .DOCX) that answers the question posed at the end of the summary of the facts of the case. The document should be written in ENGLISH. The minimum volume is 10,000 characters (with spaces), the maximum volume is 25,000 characters (with spaces). Submissions must be sent via the form below. Submissions that do not fit the requirements of volume / format are rejected. Or fill the form on this page.


Terms of Participation

You must be 18 years or older, and considered an “adult” according to the country of your residence. You must be a student of law or have a law degree. Members of the jury as well as organizers of the Summit cannot participate. You must participate under your own full name, anonymous submissions will not be accepted. By submitting your entry, you give the organizers of the Summit the right to make your work public, attributing such entry to your own full name.
